The image is meant to represent drought conditions that resulted in the emigration of farmers from their land. However, the photographer was employed by the federal government and his photography was labeled as propaganda by those who opposed Roosevelt's New Deal policies because he photographed the skull in various locations seemingly making the drought look worse and not representing the correct geographical area. I believe the alteration was done intentionally with the purpose of presenting propaganda representing the New Deal policies. I think the alteration was successful because how are people supposed to know that the photo was shot in a different location, pictures taken in a desert look pretty similar to what a drought looks like. Therefore, I would say it is successful.

The image is meant to show smoke from burning buildings destroyed during an attack. However, the photographer manipulated the photo to make the smoke appear bigger and darker to make the bombings seem more destructive. The photographer was fired and claimed he was only trying to remove dust and fix the lighting. I believe the alteration was done intentionally to make the Israeli and their attack seem more violent and to criticize Israel. I think the alteration was successful because by darkening the smoke and making it larger the viewer is under the impression that the bombing was very destructive and therefore connects the awful bombing with the Israeli people and thinks badly upon them.
